Event Updates!!

Just thought I would fill you in on what is going on at The Parlor for the next month:

-This Saturday, November 20th we are having a Give Thanks and Dance Party. $4 at the door, unless you bring a can of food, then it is $3 at the door. You get a slice of pizza, a drink, and an awesome DJ. Come! Bring friends!
-Friday, November 26th (Black Friday) there is going to be a parade on Center Street, along with the Festival of Lights. Stop by for some hot chocolate and dessert pizza!
-Wednesday December 1st Cody Rigby will be playing Concert Wednesday. Should be an amazing show.
-Friday December 3rd is the First Friday Gallery Stroll. We will be featuring art by Amanda VanValkenburg. See her art here. She will be displaying pieces on The Parlor's walls and in the window boxes. We are really really excited about it!
-Wednesday December 8th Nicholas Allen will be playing on Concert Wednesday. Bakersfield native, so it is bound to be excellent.

And that is your update! Also, we are debating whether or not to have an ugly sweater party. White people love them. What do you guys think? Please respond to the survey. And also, should it be a dance party or a grand Christmas celebration with pizza, Christmas music by Sufjan Stevens, Provo Bakery treats, and hot chocolate? Maybe some Karaoke? Please, feedback is wanted.

Thanks guy!!

Artist of the Month

October and November’s featured artist is Tiffani Herpel. Tiffani grew up in St George and has been interested in photography since she was young. She explains the reason behind her art and passion in the following biography.

My mother has always been a photographer. We've been captured my whole life. She's inspired me a great deal. Always seeing her with a camera made me want to take pictures too. I've always had some kind of camera, whether it was disposable film camera, or my first digital camera which was a Kodak DC120. I've taken pictures for as long as I can remember. Photography has just always been a part of my life.
I prefer taking pictures of people. People in their own world. For instance, the picture I took of the woman feeding the pigeon is my absolute favorite capture. She is in her own world with her pigeon friends, just being. Living. I think moments like that which can be captured are perfect. I also enjoy taking pictures of people in love, such as engagements and family portraits, but I really prefer taking genuine candid captures.
I had a bunch of pictures printed for The Parlor. I wasn't sure which ones to use, but I knew I'd use "Tuppence a Bag" and "NYC Collage" because Tuppence one is my favorite images, as stated before, and NYC is actually a favorite among many of my friends and my family. The other ones are photos that I always go back to; they make me think and they make my heart happy. I wanted to share that with everyone. They also show my eyes quite well in that they show how my eyes portray things. Captured.
Many people have the opportunity and ability to grab a camera and take pictures. I may just be another one of those people. Either way, I love it. I love being able to freeze time and remember how I felt the very moment I was taking the picture. Feeling the way I did in that very moment will always be with me. It's magic.

Check out Tiffani’s blog, http://tifphotography.blogspot.com. If you are interested in being photographed by Tiffani, you can contact her by email at tiffani.herpel@gmail.com. Come to The Parlor to check out her photos!

Before Shots

Here are some shots that I took of how the place looks now. This week we will be painting, cleaning, moving, and throwing away, and hopefully giving this place a whole new look.
Tony Boyer, current owner of Pier 49 in Provo. Good man.
Kitchen

I didn't get a very good shot of the window boxes. Right now there are really cheesy Styrofoam cut outs of San Francisco. Those will be going.

Oven. I was up until 2 in the morning Saturday cleaning this and have cuts all over my hands now because of the wire scrubber that I used. I forgot to bring gloves, which was stupid. But this thing is all clean and shinny now!

The hall where they currently keep the pizza boxes.

Upstairs storage room.

Downstairs storage room. This is actually an improvement from what it looked like before. My sisters and I cleaned it out a few weeks ago. This thing used to be full of paint, fliers, decorations, and lots of other crap that we are still in the process of getting rid of.

One of the hallways that leads to the second bathroom which needs to be repaired.

The Menu.

Hallway.

Front of House.

The mural.
Stayed tuned for after pictures! I think some paint and rearranging is going to make a huge difference.
